Why Early Childhood Matters

Children deserve the best start in life. The early years of a child’s life are essential because they shape the child’s physical, social, and emotional development in ways that have far-reaching implications. Positive, safe and nurturing environments and experiences during this period can influence children to set lifelong success, while wrong experiences create lasting impacts.
Early childhood experiences are very potent in shaping brain development from birth through age 8, laying a foundation for future learning, behavior, and health. A good start sets children on the way to success as better adults — and human beings.
The period between birth and age 3 is critical, particularly because very rapid brain development happens during that time—approximately billions of connecting neurons. Support systems and interventions are necessary during these times for nurturing and guiding growth from the very beginning.
Early life experiences strongly influence early brain development. Children thrive and develop healthily through a safe and loving relationship with their mother and father and a nurturing environment that supports their growth.
If children are given whatever it takes to develop during those early years, then the possibility of achieving milestones that will determine their success and welfare, both as an individual and in the community, will increase significantly.
Quality early childhood education and care not only develop our children but will also assure them of a better life.
