Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that the Indian government has made a “fundamental error” by supporting a campaign of violence against Canadians.

Just hours after the RCMP shared the allegations that agents of the Indian government were involved in “widespread violence” in Canada, warning that this has “a serious threat to our public safety.”

He said:

“No country, particularly not a democracy that upholds the rule of law, can tolerate this fundamental violation of its sovereignty.”

We shared our concerns with the Government of India and asked them to work with us to shed light on this important issue, but they have not responded.

He further stated:

“The RCMP has clear and compelling evidence that agents of the Government of India are involved in activities that pose a significant threat to public safety. This includes clandestine information gathering techniques, coercive behaviour targeting South Asian Canadians, and involvement in over a dozen threatening and violent acts. This is unacceptable.”

“The evidence brought to light by the RCMP cannot be ignored. It leads to one conclusion: it is necessary to disrupt the criminal activities that continue to pose a threat to public safety in Canada. That is why we acted. Because we will always-first and foremost — stand for the right of Canadians to feel safe and secure in their own country.”

The RCMP today addressed the pattern of Indian agents collecting information on Canadian citizens through questionable and illegal means.
