Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is in Laos this week to strengthen the Canadian ties in the region.

From 10th to 11th October 2024, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will highlight Canada and ASEAN’s long-standing commitment towards building a fair and prosperous future for people.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is actively working to establish a free trade agreement with ASEAN, and as that countries, the Prime Minister will discuss the progress made on last year’s ASEAN-Canada Strategic Partnership and underscore the importance of sustainable growth that benefits everyone and empowers women and girls.
Canada is improving and building on its presence in the region and establishing itself as a credible economic partner.
ASEAN is one of the fastest-growing economic regions globally, with member states representing Canada’s fourth-largest merchandise trading partner last year.
Canada-ASEAN trade has doubled since Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took office in 2015.
