French President Emmanuel Macron Visits Canada
French President Emmanuel Macron is in Canada on a two-day trip. During his visit, he will meet with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Ottawa, and he also has plans to visit Montreal.

Prime Minister Trudeau welcomed Macron outside the Rideau cottage with a big, warm smile and a hug.
Macron’s visit to Canada is the second one since he assumed office and will take place after he attends the United Nations General Assembly in New York, an event that Prime Minister Trudeau also attended recently.
The agenda includes discussions on Canada and France’s support for Ukraine, which is facing an invasion by Russia. Additionally, both will address shared interests, such as strengthening nations’ against the rise of disinformation and the benefits of artificial intelligence.
During their visit to Montreal, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will discuss Canada’s strengths in innovation and its highly skilled workforce in fields like science, research, and technology, with a focus on artificial intelligence (AI).
He will also reiterate Canada’s commitment to collaborating with France and other international allies on the responsible use of AI.
In advance of the Sommet de la Francophonie scheduled to take place in France next month, this visit will show the commitment of both countries to protect the French language and the institutions of the Francophone.
It will also provide an opportunity for Prime Minister Trudeau and President Macron to strengthen the enduring friendship between Canada and France.
According to a statement from the French presidency prior to the trip, “Canada is an exceptionally close friend for France and among the closest nations outside the European Union.”
